Nico Rosberg: Mercedes pace was much faster than expectations in Chinese GP – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP has said that their car pace was much faster than expectations in the Chinese Grand Prix as he finished fifth for his team in Shanghai.
The German made very impressive run for the Petronas-sponsored team and got 10 points in the end. His teammate Michael Schumacher was also busy struggling for his podium position, but was unable to gather his best run against the strong Formula 1 rivals,
due to having some technical issues in his car, during the race.
The 25-year-old said, “We are optimistic for one, which is nice. It is good to see after such a disastrous start, to turn it around and then lead the Shanghai race for I don't know how many laps. No one saw that coming and it was brilliant wasn't it? It
was great stuff.”
Rosberg further added, “We are just extracting the best from the car now. Set-up, basic things even, just coming together, understanding better – an example is big chunks of time from basic springs and parts. So that is good. It is not everything, a small
bit, but there are bits and pieces everywhere.”
Before the start of season’s third race, Mercedes were doubtful about their chances, since there was less time to bring some changes in the MGP-W02 car, because the Malaysia and China race took place only with a gap of one week. However, the German was able
to put a strong step in the Chinese Grand Prix and qualified fourth on the Shanghai grid ahead of race day.
He highly appreciated performance of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, as he put his team on the top spot ahead of former race winner, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
After his success in China, Rosberg is looking for another victory in the season.
The team had a disappointing start to this season, but despite of it, their drivers aimed to move with a strong strategy in the race. No doubt Mercedes really worked hard and did an excellent job at the Shanghai circuit.
In order to fight for the podium, the team has decided to bring some changes in the upcoming race of the 2011 season, which will take place on May 8, 2011 in Turkey.
