Nico Rosberg optimistic for the rest of the season
The Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg is hopeful for the rest of the Formula One season. He thinks that the 2010 season has not completely slipped out of the hands of Mercedes as half of the season is yet to go and the charts can reverse any time.
He said that though he is focusing on the upcoming 2011 season of Formula One as well but that does not mean that he had given up the fight for this season. He added that if Lewis Hamilton fails only once in one of the upcoming races and he could make to the top of the podium he could return back to the title’s battle instantly.
Last year Rosberg ended the year at seventh place behind Kimi Raikkonen who then drove for Ferrari. However, the German driver was able to bag a total of thirty five points as a Williams driver last year.
Earlier this year at the Malaysian Grand Prix Rosberg showed great racing skills as he ended at third place starting from second position at the grid. He finished one place behind Mark Webber of Red Bull who started the race from pole position and the race was won by Sebastian Vettel, the other Red Bull driver.
He was lucky for the next race as well as he once again ended at the third place in the Chinese Grand Prix this time chasing Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, who is also the current Chart topper of the season with a total of one hundred and twenty seven points.
However, the good luck and form did not continue very long after the Chinese Grand Prix that was held in the middle of April. The recently-turned 25-year-old driver has had his best finish at the Fifth place since then.
As the season had not been very good for teammate Michael Schumacher, therefore the team has fell badly after Rosberg lost the form and position he held at the start of the month. In terms of performance, Mercedes had been over taken by Renault, Force India and even by Williams.
The last race held at Valencia was the worst so far for the team as it was the first time this year that neither Rosberg nor Schumacher were able to settle among the top ten places in qualifying. However, it was again Rosberg who succeeded to end at the tenth place and get one point for the team whereas the seven time Formula One champion Schumacher ended at fifteenth place.
The team’s principal Ross Brawn had been somewhat disappointed on the team’s performance especially after Valencia, Spain as he said that now the team needs to reflect and see what should be done next as they had not been able to produce the desired results, despite the fact that they used upgraded cars in the race. The Mercedes car used at the European grand Prix consisted of the blown diffuser similar to that of Red Bull Racing and 011 exhaust system, but still the team was not able to snatch points that were expected by the team officials.
Rosberg, however, commented on the teams’ disappointment saying that the type of competition that is taking place this year, they could be back in the battle of title any time as half o the season is yet to go. He also added that the team must not give up hope, as it seems to be and instead of shifting all their concentration on technically and strategically developing the team for next year’s race they must keep focused on the currently used MGP W01 for better results in the upcoming races this year. He added that so far the end results of the season are not predictable and just a few good finishes could turn things back in their favour.
