Nico Rosberg acknowledges the competition ahead in 2011 Formula 1 season
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg stole the spotlight from Michael Schumacher who returned to the sport after 3 years, driving for Mercedes. Michael’s long awaited return proved to be a failure as he was unable to score a single podium and gave the worst performance
of his career. He finished at 9th place 72 points behind Rosberg who finished 7th, just 2 points behind the Ferrari driver Felipe Massa.
Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa have been blaming the new tyres introduced by Bridgestone this year but it seems that they won’t be able to justify anything, if they fail in 2011. Michael has been very hopeful about 2011 Formula 1 season as he believes
that the team is now making a car according to his likings, which was not the case in 2010.
The team is quite optimistic about the upcoming season as they believe that they know how to use KERS better than the rest of the teams. Owing to the smart use of KERS, the team was able to grab 2009 championship.
However, Nico Rosberg believes that it is not going to be easy closing the enormous gap between them and the top running teams. One has to agree with Nico as the team is clearly not running up to the mark as compared to Ferrari, McLaren or Red Bull and a
commendable change in strategy is required in order to reign over them.
“The gap we are closing is of course fairy big. It will take time and I don't know how much. Perhaps at the beginning of next season we will be close. We will have to see, it is difficult to predict. What is definite is that we will look better than this
year,” Rosberg told the media.
Team Mercedes finished 4th in the constructors’ standings, behind dominant rivals Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull. Since the team lost all hope in 2010, they decided to focus on their car for 2011 and as a result, Team Mercedes has been quite confident
about their chances in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“On the one hand, I'm obviously happy that I was able to beat Michael. That was very important because you compare yourself with who is in the other car. On the other hand, I had hoped for better results, but they will come - hopefully in the near future,”
added Nico.
