Nico Rosberg believes Mercedes new exhaust layout has a lot of potential – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg believes that their new exhaust layout has got a lot of potential which they are hoping to extract in the remaining races of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The Brackley based team launched their exhaust update in the Singapore Grand Prix after testing it in the Young Driver Test at Magny-Cours in France. Although, Rosberg struggled during the free practice and the qualifying at Marina Bay Street Circuit, nevertheless,
he performed tremendously well in the race and secured an incredible 5th place finish after setting off from 10th grid position.
The veteran German driver said that he never expected to see such an amazing pace on the race day in Singapore after facing some difficulties in the free practice and the qualifying.
Moreover, he said that he is very much pleased with his performance in the preceding race. He also admired the efforts of the team for introducing the update package.
Besides, he said that the development process concerning the car’s aerodynamics is very complex and is crucial indeed as it helps in increasing the downforce on track which eventually helps in improving the pace.
“It was an exciting weekend for us as a team because we had quite a lot of new parts on the car,” he said. “It's a very complicated development that we're doing there on aerodynamics with exhaust gasses, pointing them in a certain direction so you get hot
air on the back of car which creates downforce so you can go faster through the corners.”
In addition, he said that they have not been able to take full advantage of their exhaust upgrade which has a lot more potential in it. Nonetheless, he said that they are positively looking forward to take the most out of the new exhaust layout in the forthcoming
races so as to secure a good position in this year’s championship fight.
“So I'm quite optimistic that we can extract a lot of potential out of that. The others are a bit advanced on that already so maybe we can catch up a bit which would be good,” he added.
