Nico Rosberg believes he can win races with the 2011 Mercedes car
The Mercedes GP driver, Nico Rosberg is confident for embracing a far better 2011 season ahead. He is much hopeful to get a competitive car next season that can give him some good race wins.
This season has not been very encouraging for the Mercedes GP. Both the team drivers, Rosberg and Michael Schumacher kept struggling behind the top three teams of the season, the Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren. Although the young German was able to finish
a few of the races at good positions, the seven times world champion, Schumacher kept complaining about his car all the time. As the season ended, Rosberg stood at 7th place in the charts with his 142 points while Schumacher held 9th
position for having bagged just 72 points.
The team has been seen thrice on the podium the entire season, every time at third place. Still, the driver is pretty confident that the team has all the right people of the sport and the processes they are following are also brilliantly tailored.
While talking to the media this Wednesday the young lad said, "The expertise is there, but we just need a little time to get everything going in the right direction… But we are on the right track. Ross Brawn has got the team structure right and, sooner or
later, it will happen. It is only a question of whether we manage to achieve it in time for the beginning of the [2011] season because we must not forget that the gap [to the frontrunners] is already quite large."
This season has been a good one for the 25-year-old. Although he won none of the races, yet he was able to give some very spectacular races. Moreover, the results that he has been able to produce with his current car have surprised everyone at several occasions.
Above all, what has made the racer get a lot of attention was his continuous beating of his teammate and the seven times world champion, Schumacher. Almost all through the year, he has finished ahead of the racing icon, and now as the season has wrapped up,
he bags almost double points as compared to his teammate.
While revealing his aspirations for the next season, the German says that the season had been a very encouraging one for him. It is not only because he stood ahead of his teammate but majorly because he did not race alongside any ordinary racer, but a very
high-profile teammate, and statistically the most successful man in Formula One history.
He explained his season’s experience by saying, "I would never have imagined myself in such a position. It is something to remember as he is a seven-time world champion who is considered one of the best drivers of all time. You can scrape off as much paint
as you like, his success will always remain, so I do not feel at all guilty about enjoying this moment."
However, he accepted that the basic reason behind his ‘success’ over his teammate and fellow countryman this year was his suitability with the car. The 41-year-old, who returned to the track after a period of three years after announcing retirement in 2007,
has kept saying all through the season that he was not comfortable with the car, and especially the tyres did not suit his racing style.
Moreover, the Mercedes GP team boss, Ross Brawn was wise enough to understand quite early that the team missed out on the hopes of both the championships, and hence stopped the development work of the 2010 car. The team was the first one to shift all their
time and resources towards the next season’s car. Hence, the team drivers as well as the rival teams expect to see a very strong and competitive Mercedes car next year.
