Nico Rosberg believes they can win the 2012 F1 World Championship – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg believes that they have got the potential to win 2012 Formula 1 World Championship title after securing 6th place finish in the European GP.
Rosberg said that W03 is not the fastest car in the field but he still thinks that they have got all what it takes to be the world champion. Moreover, he said that they have been trying at their best to make the considerable progress in order to attain good
results in the season ahead.
“No, no. It’s not the fastest car,” he said in an interview with Marca newspaper, conducted with Rosberg in Spanish. “It’s a good car, and in some races it’s the fastest, and anyway we’re in a good situation. We have to take a small step forward and then,
yes, we can fight to win every race. Because the others are with teams that have won championships, while I’m with … we are a team that is growing. If we can win again then people will start looking at us as contenders.”
The Brackley based team is surely standing along with the most competent contenders in this season. However, Rosberg asserted that they must keep on pushing hard to reduce the gap to the front.
The veteran German driver is presently standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 75 points. Furthermore, he is just 2 points ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and 10 points behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull
Racing.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Michael Schumacher who had been struggling with some technical issues in the car and could only score 2 points in the first seven races, made an inspiring comeback in the last race in which he secured third podium finish after setting
off from 12th grid position.
In addition, the seven-time world is currently standing at 13th place in the drivers’ rankings with 17 points and is aiming to perform well in the approaching races.
Over and above, it seems quite evident that Mercedes is going to give a tough time to all the other contenders and it will be very interesting to see how they perform in the forthcoming races.
