Nico Rosberg blames tyre degradation for team’s failure at Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP’s younger driver Nico Rosberg has recently stated that he could have finished in 6th place at this past weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix as his car was fast enough but due to tyre degradation issues and the timing of the
safety car, he was unable to push as much as he could have.
Rosberg finished in 7th place behind the Force India of Paul di Resta which was quite disappointing for the team keeping in mind that they are considered as the best of the rest.
“The optimum today would have been sixth place but it didn't quite work out for us this weekend. I was struggling with the rear end in the race, and our car just really didn't suit this demanding track,” Rosberg said.
Mercedes had a disappointing weekend overall as the team was unable to score the much needed double points finish since Michael Schumacher retired out of the race after crashing into Sergio Perez’s car.
Keeping that in mind, the team’s car overall was looking pretty good before the race but unfortunately in the long run, the Mercedes was just not consistent and reliable enough to enable its drivers of scoring above average results this past weekend at the
Marina Bay.
“I had more problems with tyre degradation than the cars around me, which combined with having to switch our strategy when the safety car came out, meant it was impossible to make any progress. Whilst we might not be happy with the outcome of our weekend
here in Singapore, we will now work hard to improve the car for the next races here in Asia,” he added.
Nevertheless, Mercedes GP are still in 4th place quite effectively ahead of Lotus Renault GP. Both of the Renault drivers were unable to secure a single point for the team which was quite surprising as both Bruno Senna and Vitaly
Petrov were able to finish the race but out of the top ten without scoring a single point.
