Nico Rosberg cherishes pole position at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg has cherished his first ever pole which came in the qualifying of 2012 Chinese Grand Prix held at Shanghai International Circuit on Saturday.
The German driver showed an amazing performance and set the best time in the final session of the qualifying at Shanghai circuit with the time of 1 minute and 35.121 seconds.
After struggling in the opening two races of the season, Rosberg felt delighted with his pole position and said that it is the start of the season for him.
“For me this is the start of the season because the first two races haven't gone too well,” he said.
Nevertheless, he admitted that they need to make the essential advancements and the substantial preparations in order to improve the performance in the race as they have not been able to perform well in the race as compared to their competitive qualifying
finishes.
“It's not bad to start first and obviously that's fantastic, but of course it's pretty clear that in the race we have not been as good as in qualifying lately. We are working very hard to try and improve that, but it's not something that you can change in
a few weeks, it's something that takes some time - but I think we're making good progress in the race and that's important,” added Rosberg.
On the other hand, Rosberg’s teammate, Michael Schumacher set the third best time of 1 minute and 35.691 seconds in the qualifying of the third race after following McLaren’s driver Lewis Hamilton.
However, Schumacher will start from second grid position in the race because Hamilton has to face five-place grid penalty.
Furthermore, Rosberg said that the race on Sunday will not be easy because of the changing track conditions.
Nonetheless, he said that he will bring out the best in him so as to perform well during the race.
Ross Brawn, the team principal of Mercedes also praised his team’s driver and said that Rosberg showed an exceptional performance in the qualifying. Nevertheless, Brawn also advised that they need to improve their race pace.
