Nico Rosberg claims he scored best possible result for Mercedes GP at European GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is happy with the result he scored at this past weekend’s European Grand Prix since the 7th place was the maximum possible result for him keeping in mind the car’s performance.
His teammate Michael Schumacher on the other hand finished in 17th place due to the fact that he had a collision with Lotus Renault GP’s Vitaly Petrov in the beginning of the race.
“I'm happy with my seventh place today as that is the maximum that we could have achieved and we got everything out of the car,” said Rosberg.
The team boss Ross Brawn also agreed with the young German and stated that the car was definitely not up to the mark and that Rosberg’s results are more than satisfactory.
“Nico achieved the current potential of the car today with another very solid, mistake-free drive. couldn't have realistically expected anymore and he scored valuable points,” said Brawn.
It was believed that the young Mercedes driver could have scored a better result than this as he was able to overtake Jenson Button for the 6th place earlier on in the race but was unable to maintain his spot and in the end, finished around 38
seconds behind the 2009 Formula 1 world champion.
“It was great to overtake Jenson at the start, and we made the right strategy choice to go for three stops. The introduction of DRS was a positive for the race here in Valencia, and we saw some nice overtaking moves,” said the young German.
The team has not been able to perform up to the mark up until now in the 2011 Formula 1 season as they have not secured a single podium position while Lotus Renault GP have secured two podium positions and they are performing much better than them overall.
After this result, Mercedes GP are still in 5th place but the gap between them and Renault is now just a mere 3 points as both of the Renault drivers were unable to score some promising results this past weekend either.
