Nico Rosberg claims to have a stronger say after Michael Schumacher - Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg feels more comfortable with the team now, as he his voice is heard after the departure of former team-mate Michael Schumacher, who
retired from Formula 1 for the second time after a three year stint with Mercedes.
“I now have a stronger voice,” Rosberg told Krone. “And to me that's a beautiful process in which I can help Mercedes become the best team.”
The young German was a part of the team since they made a comeback to the sport in 2010. Since then, he has managed to win just one race, which remains the sole
victory in his entire career.
Other than that, his performances have been quite inconsistent and he starts struggling after the mid season break, when the rival teams get away with development
pace.
However, the veteran driver says that he wishes to make an improvement in the car, so that victories can come his way regularly. Since the team has started listening
to him now, he should definitely make a solid impression this year.
When asked about his ultimate target, Rosberg said, “Sure [the title is] the big goal, but now I want to win races, because success is the most fun … We want to
improve ourselves - in the direction of race wins.”
Although Mercedes seem to have taken a step forward this year, yet the 27-year-old has been unable to make a big impression in the first four rounds of the 2013
season. He has been a touch unlucky, as he has encountered some technical problems in a couple of events.
However, he did get a chance of scoring some solid points in the Bahrain GP, where was started from pole. He looked confident after the qualifiers, but failed to
manage the tyres well in the end and ended up ninth overall.
On the other hand, his new team-mate Lewis Hamilton started from ninth place in the race and finished fifth overall. He did not push hard at the start and saved
tyres, so that he could fight for some positions towards the end.
The strategy paid off for the former McLaren driver, who was able to stay in the title hunt after the end of Bahrain GP.
