Nico Rosberg confident Mercedes headed in the right direction – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg is confident that Mercedes are headed to the right direction, as the team is now becoming favourites when heading into different races.
According to the German driver, “Slowly but surely we are dropping into the role of being favourites, which is fantastic. We've had three years where it's been difficult, and we learned a lot. Now things are coming together. We built up the team with more
employees, working together better.”
He went onto say, “A lot of fantastic people have joined the team to complement the fantastic people that we already had. They managed to build a great car over the winter. Then in the development race this season, which was our big weakness last year, it
seems to be going pretty well at the moment.”
Mercedes made a comeback to the sport in 2010, but had been unable to make an impression for the first two seasons. Things got slightly better for them during the 2012 season, as their drivers were able to qualify higher on the grid.
However, that did not make a big difference, as the German squad was way behind in terms of tyre management. Rosberg did manage to win one race last year, but failed to repeat solid results with consistency.
The 28-year-old driver seemed to have quite a few issues in the opening phases of the ongoing season, but Mercedes improved with the passage of time and allowed their drivers to fight at the front for victories.
As a result, Rosberg has won a couple of races this year and is looking strong to fight for another solid result in the upcoming German GP. Looking at the tyre situation, he claimed that it did not make a difference to him now, as the team had better understanding
of what was going on.
Mercedes came under immense pressure after the test-gate controversy, but things have worked out well for them in the end. It was speculated that they might face a severe penalty from the FIA, but that was not the case.
As a result of their private test, Mercedes have won two of their past three races and are looking good to challenge championship leaders Red Bull.
