Nico Rosberg confident of Mercedes comeback in 2011
There were high hopes from the Mercedes team for the 2010 season, but Ross Brawn and his team were unable to live up to expectations this season. There was a lot of hype created around the return of former world champion Michael Schumacher with Mercedes,
but the team finished fourth in the constructors championship, and was unable to match the front runners.
Apart from the limited success in the 2010 season, Nico Rosberg is confident that his team will bounce back in 2011, and that Mercedes will develop a strong car for next season. According to Rosberg, the Mercedes team has all the qualities required to be
on top spot.
Rosberg feels that the main problem this season was that the team was not good with organisational changes. The team won in 2009 as Brawn GP, but was unable to develop a similarly strong car in the 2010 season.
Rosberg admitted that his team was not capable of winning races last season, but he is sure that they will challenge the front runners in 2011. Talking to the media he said, “We were just not the best team in the way that the factory is set-up and everything.
But I think we have the best people, starting off with Ross, so I have a lot of confidence that we'll get there. It's just that Ross's process hasn't finished yet, and he's learning along the way also, I think.”
The German driver praised Ross Brawn, and said that he keeps learning from his mistakes and has planned a lot of changes for next season. He is definitely the man who can take out the maximum from every individual in the team.
Rosberg is confident that Brawn will make the changes required to move the team in the right direction, and he believes that there have already been many organisational changes in the team which will benefit the overall results next year.
Although he was confident about the team’s progress, Rosberg commented that he was not exactly sure when all the changes would reflect in the team’s performances. He said, “Brawn is making changes all the time, so yes, pieces are falling into place. But
it's difficult for me to judge how quickly and how efficiently, because I'm not really inside. It's still in the recovery period.”
Talking about his role in the team, Rosberg said that he has enjoyed it and driving a Mercedes has been a very good experience for him. He believes that he has a very good relationship with his team, and this relationship will be a long lasting one as the
team is also looking for stability.
A common view is that Red Bull, Mclaren and Ferrari will be the three teams to look out for in 2011 once again, but considering the performance and talent of the Mercedes team, the Formula One fraternity could be surprised in 2011. Mercedes was unable to
impress in 2010, but that doesn’t mean that they are not capable of winning races and ultimately the championship.
