Nico Rosberg feeling left out in the team
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg does not think he has been given the kind of attention and recognition from his team that he deserves for dominating his illustrious, legendary teammate Michael Schumacher this season.
Michael Schumacher has been focused on by everyone due to his struggles on his return to the sport and his inability to adapt his driving style with the characteristics of the Mercedes car. Rosberg feels his own achievements have been undervalued due to
the fact that he has been trying to take the “spot light” in Mercedes since he returned to the sport.
“I don't think my performance is well enough recognized”, Rosberg told German weekly
Sport Bild.
Finally, after more than 8 months of silence, Nico has spoken and one has to agree with him more than a hundred percent as the German driver has been outperforming the 7 time world champion in almost every single race up until now and must be appreciated
for it. The team has been more than unfair with him and it seems that the young driver has finally realized that the team is being biased in this matter.
Nico’s recent statement will be a huge blow to his team as Schumacher and Ross Brawn are already under so much pressure from the media and with Nico not happy, the team will have to think of keeping their mind set in a fixed direction. Mercedes should at
least set their priorities straight and the team should realize by now that if they work with Nico and Michael together, they will be unstoppable next season. However, if they favour one driver, they will receive nothing but criticism similar to their time
together during Michael’s 5 year championship streak.
Rosberg has out-qualified Schumacher in 13 out of the 16 races of this season and has a massive 68 point margin over him in the drivers’ standings. While Schumacher has been complaining about his problems regarding the new Bridgestone narrower front tyres
and the car’s preference for understeer, Rosberg has had to face the exact same problems after moving from Williams to Mercedes but he managed to get used to it.
Michael is the best driver in the history of the sport statistically and when he says that he has been facing a lot of problems getting used to the new system, it is quite pathetic as the rest of the drivers are facing the exact same problem. This proves
that Michael is nothing without a good car and that he requires spoon feeding in order to win.
This is not how a champion is as this shows very amateurish attitude. He should have at least admitted that his teammate is doing a much better job than him and that he has been struggling more than his teammate.
“It's the same for me. Actually I think Michael has been able to adapt his driving style better than I have. Michael has 15 years of experience in Formula One”, said Nico.
Despite Rosberg’s recent comments, Mercedes’ competition boss Norbert Haug insists that Rosberg’s efforts have not been undervalued by the team.
Norbert thinks that it is absolutely obvious that Nico has so far extracted the best performance that was possible from the car.
“Only on a very few occasions was this not the case. I think he learned a lot with Williams and if you would name one of the top guys that are currently young and experienced in formula one you would certainly mention Nico,” said Haug.
Nico has been a very good benchmark this season for everybody on the grid and Mercedes should realize by now that if Nico is provided with the atmosphere and attention Michael is provided with, they would not need a “Michael Schumacher” in their garage to
give them hopes of a title in the near future.
