Nico Rosberg feels concerned about tyre wear ahead of 2012 Japanese GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is concerned about tyre wear ahead of 2012 Japanese Grand Prix after the limited run in the free Friday practice at Suzuka.
The Brackley based team has been facing tyre management issues since 2011. Even though, they launched a new exhaust layout in the Singapore GP with an aim to reduce tyre wear. However, Rosberg has recently said that they still need to work really hard to
develop a setup which can help in solving the problems in tyre handling.
"We had a tricky day," Rosberg said. "At the end of the first practice session, the oil pressure sensor told me the system was low on pressure so I switched off the engine. It was coming to the end of its life, so we changed it during lunch to avoid any
risks, but it cost some running time this afternoon. We are still not where we want to be in terms of performance and we will have to learn some lessons overnight, in order to make sure we have our tyre management under control."
Additionally, he said that the track of the race ahead is one of the most challenging circuits in the calendar because of its very fast corner. Therefore, he asserted that they need to focus on developing the right tyre strategy so as to come up stronger
in the forthcoming race.
Furthermore, he insisted that they really need to push harder to improve their pace so as to make their mark stronger in this year’ championship.
The veteran German driver is presently standing at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 93 points. Besides, he is ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus and is behind his main rival, Jenson Button of McLaren.
It will be important to mention that his teammate, Michael Schumacher has decided to take retirement at the end of this season which he announced just after the news of McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Silver Arrows in the next season.
Let’s see how the 27-year-old performs in the remainder of this season and in the year ahead.
