Nico Rosberg feels contented after Friday practice of 2012 Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg feels contented with the performance of W03 in free Friday practice of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
Rosberg covered 40 laps and set the 10th fastest time of 1 minute and 15.878 seconds in FP2. Moreover, he stayed ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and behind Jenson Button of McLaren.
The veteran German driver said that they have managed to gather some crucial information about the car’s setup during practice sessions which will surely provide great help for making the future advancements.
“We had a good day today, although the track temperatures were quite cold which should not be the same over the weekend. This made it a little more difficult to warm up the tyres, but we were able to collect some good data on our long runs and have a lot of information to look at. It's a great track here and I'm really enjoying being in Montreal,” he said.
At present, he is standing at fifth position in the drivers’ championship with 59 points. Besides, he is 8 points ahead of Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and 4 points behind Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Although he could not score even a single point in the first two grands prix, however, he performed amazingly well in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China and took his maiden victory after claiming his first ever pole position.
Later, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he secured fifth place finish after setting off from the same grid position. Afterwards, in the fifth race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, he came 7th after starting from 6th place in the grid.
Over and above, in the last race at Circuit de Monaco, he secured an incredible second podium finish after qualifying for the second grid position.
Meanwhile, the Brackley based team is at fifth place in the constructors’ championship with 61 points. Furthermore, they are 17 points ahead of Williams and 25 points behind Lotus.
Above and beyond, they are making the significant preparations for the approaching race so as to make their position stronger in the title chase.
