Nico Rosberg feels pleased with fifth place finish in 2012 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that is very much pleased with his fifth place finish in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix held at Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The Brackley based team came up with a new exhaust layout in W03 in Singapore and were quite hopeful for the race. Conversely, they faced little bit difficulties in the practice sessions and lacked pace in the qualifying as compared to their rivals. Nonetheless,
Rosberg has said that he is really surprised with his competitive fifth place finish in the night race as he never expected it after struggling in the qualifying.
The veteran German driver said that he is really happy with the overall performance of his team during the preceding race due to which he managed to come 5th despite facing issues in the practice and qualifying.
“I'm pleased, I didn't foresee that I was going to finish fifth because generally the weekend has been quite difficult,” Rosberg said. “But I had a good start and everything worked out perfectly today, so that was nice.”
Furthermore, he said that even though their update package has enhanced the pace of their car considerably but they still need to carry on making the essential improvements so as to show up stronger in the remaining races of the ongoing season.
“Well, not [working] according to plan we're not where we want to be but it's progress and we learned a lot. It's not something that you put on and straight away it's going to do a massive jump so we need to work on it and optimise it, so that's what we're
going to have to do now in the upcoming days,” he added.
In addition, he admired his team’s decision not to set time in the final qualifying session so as to save the tyres for the race which proved out to be quite fruitful in the end.
Over and above, he said that he is now earnestly looking forward to perform well in the Japanese GP and is aiming to score points with greater consistency in the season ahead in order to secure a good position in the championship.
