Nico Rosberg feels pleased with setup progress after Friday practice of British GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that they have made a sound progress with the setup of W03 during the Friday practice sessions of 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Rosberg could only set the 9th best time in the first session. However, he improved significantly in FP2 as he came 4th in the timesheets. Moreover, he stood amongst very few drivers who were contended with their running as most of the contenders faced issues with the wet track conditions.
“In general, it was a good and productive day for us,” Rosberg said. “We improved the set-up during the break which helped as we were quicker in the afternoon. It's very unusual that the weather forecast for the whole weekend is wet, and we didn't run that much to save our limited wet tyres. The conditions were really quite tricky out there with all the puddles, and it was very difficult to find the right limit. I hope we can continue to make progress tomorrow.”
In addition, he said that although they could not gather the desired amount of information during the first two practice sessions. Nevertheless, they were able to optimise the given opportunities while he said that he felt really comfortable behind the wheel of his car.
Furthermore, he said that they are aiming to make further progress in the third session so as to be able to come strong on Sunday.
On the other hand, his teammate, Michael Schumacher also showed an impressive pace during FP2 as he came third in the timesheets. Additionally, the seven-time world champion seemed comfortable in his updated car.
Over and above, the Brackley based team remained quite successful in attaining the necessary data to make the evaluations of the updates during the Friday afternoon in Silverstone.
It will be important to note that rain limited the running in both the practice sessions and it has been forecasted that the same weather conditions may persist throughout the weekend. Therefore, all the contenders are trying their best to get acquainted with the climate to perform well on the race day.
