Nico Rosberg hopes Mercedes GP will end 2011 season close to top three teams – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg hopes his team will end the 2011 Formula 1 season close to top three current teams, which includes Red Bull Racing, McLaren and Ferrari.
Rosberg said that he is hopeful they can close their gap from the top three teams in terms of points in the last two rounds of the ongoing season, which will be held in Abu Dhabi and Brazil respectively.
The German talked to the media and added that he felt very comfortable in MGP-W02 car over the recently held Indian Grand Prix, and after that, he is planning to build on the result in Abu Dhabi next weekend.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver also mentioned that he is hoping to be closer to the fastest teams for the last couple of races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, and they are pushing very hard to achieve that.
Rosberg discussed the racetrack of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and commented, “The Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi is another great Hermann Tilke-designed track which I like very much. It's a fantastic setting with the track winding around the harbour and the
hotel, and there is always a great atmosphere there with so many fans.”
On the other hand, the team boss Ross Brawn stated that they are looking for fifth and sixth places for their drivers in the upcoming race weekend.
Brawn added, “The Yas Marina Circuit is without doubt one of the most visually impressive Formula One facilities to have been built in recent years. The race has very quickly established itself as a wonderful, sell-out weekend, loved by drivers, teams, fans
and guests alike.”
The team boss further added that they are looking forward to challenge their rivals in the Abu Dhabi race weekend. In addition, he mentioned that both the team cars finished the 2011 Indian race in the points and therefore, they are again looking for the
same results of India in the next race weekend.
After completing 17 rounds of the ongoing season so far, Mercedes GP are placed at the fourth place with 145 points in the 2011 constructors’ championship.
