Nico Rosberg hopes Mercedes can steadily progress after a positive Silverstone race – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has said that he hopes his team can steadily progress in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season after a positive British Grand Prix at the Silverstone race circuit recently.
Rosberg also said that the British Grand Prix could be a turning point for Mercedes and now he is hopeful that they can close the gap from the current top runners in the upcoming race weekends of the ongoing season.
The German kicked off to a good British Grand Prix, where he had a trouble-free Friday Free Practice session. The qualifying round was very positive for him, as he secured his place for Sunday’s race in the top ten.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver started his Silverstone race from the ninth place on the opening grid and ended up at the sixth position for them.
He was 60.6 seconds off the pace of the race winner Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso at the Silverstone racetrack. The team driver admitted after the race that he was satisfied with the car’s pace in Silverstone and for scoring decent points.
The 26-year-old driver said, “I had a really good start but then I didn't do the best of jobs on the first lap so I fell back a bit. From then on the race really went well. It was a great strategy and one [place] by one I just moved up and finished the race
in sixth, so that was really good and I'm pleased with that.”
He went on mention, “I think and hope that as a team this is the turning point and from now on we can steadily progress and close the gap to the front. That would be great. All in all I think it was a positive weekend going in the right direction.”
His teammate Michael Schumacher also did well during the Silverstone Grand Prix as after starting the race from 13th position, he finished the grand prix in 9th place.
After a positive race weekend in Silverstone recently, Rosberg is hoping for successful races for the rest of the season. Let’s see how the team fares in it.
