Nico Rosberg insists Michael Schumacher should stay at Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has insisted his teammate, Michael Schumacher to stay in the team in 2013 despite the ongoing speculations regarding the retirement of the seven-time world champion after this year.
Schumacher joined the Brackley based team two years ago and there have been a lot of reports which are stating that the veteran German driver is going to take retirement after this season. Moreover, it has been reported that although the record championship holder will retire at the end of this year as a race driver but he will keep on providing his services in the sport.
On the other hand, there have been many rumours that Lewis Hamilton of McLaren has been seen as a potential replacement of the record championship holder as his contract with the Woking based team is going to expire at the conclusion of this year.
However, Rosberg has said that he gets along very well with his compatriot and expressed that he wants him to be in the team in the next season. Furthermore, he admired the performance of the 43-year-old in the season until now and praised his driving skills. He also said that they can take their team to new heights if they keep on working hard together.
Over and above, he said that he wants the legendary driver to stay in Silver Arrows for the coming year.
“Michael is still at a very, very high level on the track,” Rosberg is quoted as saying in Metro. “It is a challenge to race against him. We push the team forward and usually have the same opinion. I think it would be right if Michael stays.”
Meanwhile, the iconic driver has not said anything in this regard and expressed that he is looking forward to perform well in the Singapore Grand Prix which is to be held at Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend and is focussing to secure a reasonable position in this year’s championship.
“The nice thing is that the circuit is very technically demanding and it's very tricky to get a perfect lap. After a reasonably encouraging weekend in Monza, we have good expectations for another promising performance. I'm looking forward to the night race,” said Schumacher.
