Nico Rosberg insists teammate Michael Schumacher is still competitive
Mercedes GP’s, Nico Rosberg, insists that his teammate, 7-time Formula 1 world champion, Michael Schumacher, is still competitive despite the fact that Nico has been performing much better up until now, comparatively.
Schumacher has been struggling to perform up to the mark since he returned to Formula 1 in 2010. Rosberg, on the other hand, has been giving some pretty good performances comparatively since then, as he recently scored Mercedes’ first podium of the 2011
Formula 1 season, at this past week’s, Turkish Grand Prix.
As a result, Rosberg is currently 14 points ahead of the 7-time world champion in the drivers’ standings and even last year, the young German scored 70 points more than Schumacher in the drivers’ standings.
There are many rumours that Michael might retire after the 2011 Formula 1 season but nothing has been confirmed yet by his team, or, himself. Nico as a result defended Schumacher and stated that his lead over his teammate is not as “intimidating” as it sounds.
“He is and remains the most successful racing driver of all time. It is still very difficult to be faster than him and I must work hard in every session. Everything needs to fit together for me to stay ahead. I'm happy that it has worked well for me against
him so far, but I also know that at the next race it may be difficult”, Rosberg told the media.
Other than that, it has been revealed that Mercedes GP is going to introduce some new aerodynamic upgrades for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, as the team’s boss, Ross Brawn, has promised that the team is going to take a big step in terms of development.
As a result, Rosberg believes that these improvements are going to take him even closer to the podium in the upcoming races.
“Most teams are bringing new things, but I think ours could be better than the others to bring us a little closer to the top”, he added.
Since Mercedes and Ferrari have shown some improvements in terms of performance at the Turkish Grand Prix, it seems that Red Bull Racing Team and McLaren might have to go through some more obstructions in their journey for titles this year.
