Nico Rosberg likely to replace Felipe Massa at Ferrari in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has emerged as one of the candidates for a replacement for Felipe Massa at Ferrari since the Brazilian driver has not been able to perform up to the mark since his near fatal accident back
in 2009.
Felipe’s contract is about to expire in 2012 and it seems that this is going to be the best opportunity for all of the young drivers to prove themselves in 2011 and hopefully avail this opportunity.
Rosberg has emerged as one of the candidates for the spot as he has been performing very well in a very disappointing Mercedes. The reason why the young German stands out as compared to the rest of the drivers is that he has been outperforming his teammate,
the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher constantly since the 2010 season.
Recent reports have revealed that there was a contact between Rosberg’s management and Ferrari and it seems that replacing Felipe is the main reason for it.
Other than that, it is believed that Paul di Resta is being considered by Mercedes GP for a race seat next year while Felipe Massa is being linked with Red Bull Racing team as a replacement for Mark Webber.
Mark Webber is also on a year-to-year contract with the team and if his team decides to renew his contract, then he might stay with them for another year as well. However, if Mark does not perform up to the team’s expectations in 2011, then he will certainly
be replaced and Massa might be the one to replace him.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has also recently stated that if his team McLaren does not deliver this year and if they do not come up with some promising developments for 2012, then he might consider other options as well. As a result of this statement, Red
Bull Racing team released a statement which meant that the team would be interested in hiring the 2008 Formula 1 champion if he wants to join them.
Therefore, it seems that there is a lot of pressure on most of the teams and drivers this year since it is believed that there are going to be a lot of changes in the drivers’ line up in the top running teams of the sport next year.
Nevertheless, the 2011 Formula 1 season has just begun and the drivers have a lot of time to prove themselves and give good results for their respective teams. Sebastian Vettel is currently leading the drivers’ standings followed by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson
Button.
