Nico Rosberg may feel under pressure in 2013 with Lewis Hamilton’s arrival in Mercedes – Formula 1
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg may feel under pressure with the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in the team in the 2013 Formula 1 season as the Briton is faster than him.
Rosberg performed impressively well in this season and stood amongst one of the most consistent points scorers in the opening few races. Moreover, he secured his first ever pole position leading to his maiden victory in Chinese Grand Prix.
However, he failed to score points with consistency as the Brackley based team struggled with the development of their car throughout the year.
Furthermore, his teammate, Michael Schumacher also faced immense difficulties due to which he could not score competitive points for his team. Nevertheless, he performed impressively well in the European GP and managed to secure third podium finish which
was his best result since his comeback to F1.
On the other hand, Hamilton performed tremendously well throughout the season and had been deemed as one of the most competent title contenders. Unfortunately, he faced few retirements because of some technical issues in his car due to which he lost some
crucial points in the championship fight and eventually his hopes to win the title faded.
Nevertheless, he still managed to secure fourth place finish in the drivers’ championship. Additionally, he stood ahead of his teammate, Jenson Button and behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
The 2008 world champion is going to leave McLaren at the end of this season after a very long affiliation with the British squad and has planned to join Mercedes in the next season as Schumacher’s replacement. Conversely, the seven-time world champion announced
to take retirement from the sport after the news of Hamilton’s move to the Silver Arrows was confirmed.
Mercedes’ performance in this season has been questioned a lot as they failed to make the significant in-season car developments. However, Rosberg has said that they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the next
season.
In addition, he said that they are working really hard at their factory and will surely hit back well in the coming year with a more competitive car.
“The improvement is massive,” Rosberg said. “Unfortunately we haven't seen it much in the second half of the season, but in the first part of the season we had the fastest car in two races - China and Monaco.
“That's the improvement. We're making progress; we're getting better,” he said. “If you would walk through the factory today, you would see a massive improvement compared to three years ago.”
Besides, he said that the competition is going to be even tougher in the next season, but they are fully prepared to compete well with their rivals.
“The amount of competence that has joined us, the way everything is joined together, it's really making huge steps and that's why next year I'm sure will be better for us again,” he added.
Although, the veteran German driver seems to be very confident for the coming season, but there are huge chances that he may feel immensely under pressure to perform better, with the arrival of the British driver who has been considered as one of the most
talented drivers in the sport.
It will be exciting to see how the two old friends, Rosberg and Hamilton, perform in the next season.
