Nico Rosberg not afraid to take on Michael Schumacher in 2011 – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg is going to team alongside the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher for another season.
Nico claims that he is not afraid to take on his teammate in 2011 and he is going to push as hard as he can in order to ensure that he beats his teammate yet again.
“It may be close between us, and maybe he will beat me, but there's no way he's going to put me in the shade. There is no reason why I would be worse than last year - on the contrary, I will be better,” he told the media.
In the 2010 Formula 1 season, Nico Rosberg, outscored Michael Schumacher by 70 points and finished in 7th place while Michael finished in 9 position in the drivers’ standings.
This was quite a big achievement for Nico as he defeated the German while being in the same team as him and on top of that, he was the “best of the rest” as he finished in 7th place behind the top six drivers from the top running
teams.
Schumacher claims that he failed to produce good results because of the fact that his car was designed according to Jenson Button’s likings and the tyre compound Bridgestone introduced in 2010 did no suit his driving style.
However, in 2011, Pirelli is going to replace Bridgestone as the lone tyre suppliers of Formula 1 and up until now, it seems that the tyre compounds introduced by Pirelli are pretty good and most of the drivers including Michael are satisfied with it.
Nico Rosberg also stated that he is going to try his best to challenge the top running drivers in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“It doesn't really interest me, but I found it a little strange that you wouldn't say Red Bull is your nearest rival. That seems pretty obvious,” added Nico.
This means that Team Mercedes really does have a strong car for the 2011 Formula 1 season and it would be quite interesting to see four teams battling for the titles this season.
It seems that Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team will have to consider Mercedes as a threat to their respective title runs in 2011.
