Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP still looking to grab points at 2011 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP is still looking to grab points at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday at Suzuka after he failed to set a time for the qualifiers.
Rosberg was unable to set a time in the qualifiers of 2011 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, Saturday, October 8 due to hydraulic problems. He will be starting 23rd on the grid on the raceday which is set to take place Sunday, October
9. Despite his disappointing performance at the qualifiers, the German is still optimistic that he will be able to grab some points on Sunday and end up in the top ten positions.
The German had to return to pits after receiving instructions from the teams following hydraulic problems which resulted in the 26-year-old starting the race from the 23rd position on the grid.
Nico said, “We tried to fix it in time for me to complete a lap, however the hydraulic systems are quite complicated and there just wasn't enough time. So for the race, I have a promising strategy with all the new tyres that I have! But seriously, I will
push and try to get into the top ten. That will be my aim tomorrow.”
He started the recently held Singapore race from seventh at the grid after making most of the car and struggling hard on Pirelli’s soft and supersoft set of tyres, finished in the 7th position.
Rosberg is currently 7th on the drivers’ championship with 62 points to his credit.
Team Principal Ross Brawn pointed out that with the tyre degradation expected to be high on this track, Rosberg could have a lot of opportunities to play with. He feels good about the car they have which may not be as competitive as the Red Bulls, McLarens
and Ferraris, but they still have a fair chance of pulling off a good performance at the race.
Brawn said, “It's going to be quite a challenge for him starting from the back of the grid but it will be an interesting race with the tyre situation so there should be opportunities.”
Nico will be starting the race at the back of the grid.
Let’s see how he fares at the race on Sunday, October 9 at the Suzuka circuit.
