Nico Rosberg of Mercedes expects high tyre wear in Canada – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg has claimed that tyre degradation will once again be a huge factor in the upcoming Canadian GP, but Mercedes will look to be competitive just like the previous round in Monaco.
According to the veteran driver, “It's a very difficult layout to drive because of the low down force levels required for the long straights and it will be tough on the tyres. Monaco was a fantastic weekend for the team and I'm so proud of the victory that
we achieved there. We'll be hoping to maintain that momentum in Canada this weekend.”
Rosberg was simply unmatchable on the streets of Monte Carlo, as he topped the practice and qualifying sessions before winning the race comfortably. He did not have any tyre wear issues, which was a huge sigh of relief for the entire team.
Therefore, he is feeling confident heading into the next race and added, “The Canadian Grand Prix is always a great event as the fans in Montreal are so enthusiastic. The whole city really loves the race and it's such a lively place to be over the weekend.
We receive so much support out in Montreal and it's great to see that enthusiasm.”
Looking at the track characteristics in Montreal, it seems that Mercedes will once again be strong during the qualifiers. They have been on pole for the past four events, which clearly shows how strong they are in terms of a single lap run. However, it will
be interesting to see whether they manage to be equally competitive on race day.
When it comes to tyre management, Lotus and Ferrari seem to have an edge over their rivals. Therefore, they are the teams to look out for in Canada. On the other hand, Red Bull will also not be far behind.
Mercedes might also spring up a surprise in the upcoming event, as the team has gathered some useful data after their private test with Pirelli in Barcelona. Most of the rival teams have criticised this session, but the FIA has not yet taken any action against
the Brackley-based squad.
Other than the test, the team might also benefit from the arrival of Paddy Lowe, who was previously employed at McLaren as a technical director.
