Nico Rosberg says Mercedes eyeing better results in Valencia than Montreal – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg has said that his team will show a better result in the upcoming European Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Rosberg, who finished the Canadian Grand Prix in 11th place, stated that Mercedes were right up there in Montreal but were unable to show results which will not be the case in Valencia.
The German said, “We're working hard for a better result in Valencia than in Canada, and I'm very confident that we can make this happen. I visited the factory this week to see everyone, which was nice, and it was good to see how the work is progressing.”
Further talking about the track of Valencia, Rosberg said, “Valencia is always a very interesting weekend. The track is a combination of a real circuit and a street circuit so the walls are very close to the cars, and you really have to concentrate around
every one of the 25 corners.”
Mercedes have really struggled in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far and are still unable to match the speeds of Red Bull and McLaren.
In the Montreal race, Michael Schumacher of the Mercedes team ran as high as second in the later part of the race. However, first Jenson Button and then Mark Webber found their way past the veteran.
Although Schumacher was able to hold off Webber for many laps, as the German never left the race line, still the Aussie found his way ahead of him with a much faster car.
Mercedes have said previously that they seem to struggle on the hard tyres and in the last two races, where supersoft tyres were used, Mercedes were right up on the pace.
However, Mercedes still need some more pace if they are to catch up with Red Bull or McLaren in the upcoming races of the season.
The upcoming Valencia Grand Prix will be the eighth round of the 2011 Formula 1 season scheduled to take place on June 26.
