Nico Rosberg says Michael Schumacher is ready for his first GP win in Istanbul – Formula 1
Mercedes’ driver, Nico Rosberg, has backed his 42-year-old German counterpart, Michael Schumacher, by saying that his performance will get a boost when the Turkish Grand Prix takes place. Nico said that the first three races were not as expected but the
Mercedes team will work hard in Turkey.
Nico backed his old partner and said that he is not on top of his game but still gives a good fight during the race. German said, “Michael performs at a high level – he is strong. His current results do not reflect how good he is. To beat him, I have to
get everything right – he's closer than last year,” said Nico.
The German added that the 2011 season was not as expected but in the Chinese Grand Prix, the team was showing some aggressive tactics when Nico was leading the race for quite a few laps. Nico’s performance was good in China and only the fuel load problem
hindered his performance.
Nico added that apart from his performance, Schumacher is also looking forward to win a race in Turkey. “Schumi' is similarly pumped up for Istanbul – one of the few Grand Prix on the F1 calendar that he has never won – and is adamant that his motivation
to succeed and to return to the very front of the field still burns as brightly as it has ever done,” commented the young German.
Recently Schumi confirmed his stay in the Mercedes team until 2012 season. His contract speculations arose when his performance in the opening three races plus his performance in the previous season was nowhere near his team-mates achievements. It was thought
that he would leave the Formula 1 arena after the 2011 season but Schumi and Nico want a little bit more competition.
Mercedes team are currently not a threat for the higher running teams but slowly and steadily they can make their way into the top three finishers in the Istanbul race.
The next race is due in Turkey on the 8th of May.
