Nico Rosberg says future teammate Lewis Hamilton will be a new challenge for him – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes has stated that he will be competing well against his future teammate Lewis Hamilton who currently drives for the McLaren team.
Hamilton has recently signed a three-year deal with the Mercedes team and will be partnering Rosberg in place of Michael Schumacher from the next year.
Schumacher has announced his retirement from the sport with no plans of returning to it this time unlike his first retirement. While Rosberg has been doing much better than his current teammate Schumacher, he thinks that he will be very competitive against
Hamilton as well.
“There's no concern, I'm pleased he's joining the team and it's a new challenge for me,” he told ESPN. “And yes, he's one of the best out there so it's going to be very interesting going up against him. But again, I'm convinced that I'll do well and we'll
see how he goes.”
Hamilton has already won the F1 championship once in 2008 and has finished 48 times on podium in his career so far.
On the other hand, Rosberg has not been blessed with the championship yet and has only scored 7 podiums that are much less as compared to the McLaren driver. However, the current F1 season has been quite fruitful for the Mercedes driver as he scored his
first ever pole and his first F1 race victory in the Chinese Grand Prix.
Rosberg has also been scoring more points than Schumacher this season. The older driver, who is retiring after a remarkable career of two decades, has not been able to perform well ever since his return and regrets his decision to come out of his first retirement.
Rosberg thinks that to beat such a historic driver has been good for his own career. He says that he never expected to be compared to him and it feels good to have beaten him three years in a row.
He is also optimistic about Hamilton’s addition to the team from next year.
He said, “I'm sure we are going to do even better and then also with Hamilton joining the team, that's going to be a good boost for everybody and I think it's a nice change and refreshing, which is good.”
