Nico Rosberg says he is confident of a strong finish at Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP’s driver, Nico Rosberg, updated the media after Free Practice Session 2 that he is confident about the Spanish race weekend. He claims that the aerodynamic developments will bring upbeat results during Sunday’s race.
He also mentioned that the Petronas-sponsored team will expect significant steps forward in their overall performance for the Barcelona race weekend based on a raft of improvements to the new MGP-W02 car.
The German successfully finished Friday’s Free Practice Session and placed sixth after completing his laps. He shared his feelings about the upcoming race weekend and added that he is very pleased with his current condition in the season and confident for
positive race results as well.
Rosberg admitted that things are going in the team’s favour. However, they added some upgrades to the car, with hopes of winning a podium place in Spain. He stated that the team has not really made many big changes to their actual machine. They have just
been improving their car over the last two races.
The 25-year-old driver said, “But now we have some upgrades here, so for sure there will be a step forward again. We went well in testing here, but testing was so long back that you cannot compare. I don't think it is going to be so different from Turkey
to here, that all of a sudden with this track it will help us.”
He also discussed the criticism about his team-mate Michael Schumacher. Rumours have spread that the seven-time world champion’s poor performance at the Istanbul race, signal the end of his career. However, Rosberg dismissed the critics and said that all
those rumours had not affected Mercedes.
He went on to say, “For me it is business as usual, and we are pushing on. We reviewed Istanbul, looking at what we could have done better because we didn't have a perfect weekend. Not only that, but we had a poor race pace compared to qualifying.”
After a successful Friday Practice Session, Rosberg is ready to perform strongly in the Qualifying round of Spanish Grand Prix, taking place on May 21, in Barcelona.
