Nico Rosberg says he is happy with Mercedes GP – Formula 1 update
Formula 1 Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has said that he is happy with his current team and that he would like to stay long with the team.
He also mentioned that it is his wish to carry out his good work with the Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn and president Norbert Haug until his retirement, as both are very supportive.
The German driver expressed his positive feelings for the team and admitted that he is very excited ahead of the 2011 season, as he will drive an attractive Silver Arrow chassis, over the season.
He went on to say, “That is something very special, and I would love it if we had a long-term future together.”
The 25-year-old Rosberg made good progress, with his teammate Michael Schumacher, over the winter testing. Both drivers started their testing in the new MGP-W02 car, on the Valencia grid and moved on successful, until the final Barcelona test. Rosberg admitted
that Mercedes GP really worked hard on its new package and no doubt the team introduced best package for this season.
Despite of an upgraded car over the test sessions, he explained that it is not as fast as other team’s cars, but its handling is better and has much grip. Moreover, the team is going in the right direction, as they made an inspiring progress, during their
testing.
Rosberg believed that he has a good platform so he is looking for his first win, this year. On the other hand, he discussed the new challenging systems of the machine and said, “We understand the Pirelli tyres well now, both over race distances and shorter
qualifying runs, and had the opportunity to try them out in the wet on the last day in Barcelona. KERS took some getting used to: it was a completely new system for the team, and also for me as a driver.”
He went on to say, “The trickiest thing from a driving point of view is under braking, because the amount of energy you try to harvest can really affect the balance of the car. The adjustable rear wing is actually fairly straightforward to operate and should
bring an extra interest to the races.”
He also appreciated the Pirellis’ better work and said the strategy seems really interesting this year but he is looking forward to see how it works out, during the race. In the end he admitted, the number of pit stops due to the tyres degradation will make
this season race more excited for Formula 1 fans.
Most of the teams have been moved towards the Australian grid where they will start their first race practice, on 25 to 26 March. It will be interesting to see how Mercedes GP manage their competition among the strong rivals.
