Nico Rosberg says he will be happy to see rain over the British GP weekend – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg has said that he would like it if the conditions during the British Grand Prix are wet rather than dry.
The forecasts are showing showers during the weekend and both Rosberg and his veteran teammate Michael Schumacher have said that they would like to see rain during the weekend.
After the second Practice session, Rosberg and Schumacher showed exactly why they wanted rain during the weekend as both Mercedes drivers were able to show good pace. Schumacher finished with the third best time of the session and only 0.2 seconds behind
the leader Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg came in at fourth place.
Rosberg believes that the team can move forward after it proves itself in these conditions. The car feels great and it is proving to be very productive according to the German.
“Our car seems to be alright, so from my point of view it can rain,” said Rosberg. “In general, it was a good day and very productive. We improved the car a lot from this morning and for similar conditions it was a lot quicker, so I'm quite pleased with
that. So it can rain tomorrow, no problem.”
Schumacher also praised the Mercedes car and said he was very pleased with the way things have gone so far. He said he has been able to get some valuable time on the track. He admitted that it was tricky conditions but it was also good practice before the
race.
“We had reasonably consistent conditions. There was too much water on the circuit [at first in FP2] but finally it was okay to run. Even though it was tricky, it's okay in terms of you get used to the track because it [rain] might happen on Sunday,” he said.
Rosberg won his maiden Grand Prix in the season and is looking for a repeat performance. Schumacher struck his first podium since his comeback and is now looking forward to get a victory.
This is good opportunity for the Mercedes team to really fight for the titles. The competitiveness in the season has allowed them to remain in contention even after eight races have been completed in the season.
It will be interesting to see how the two Mercedes drivers fare at the British GP.
