Nico Rosberg says no driver is favoured at Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that no driver is favoured in their team regardless of securing a position behind his teammate, Lewis Hamilton in the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit.
Rosberg performed convincingly well in the second race of the season and seemed stronger than Hamilton towards the end. However, he was ordered by his team principal, Ross Brawn to back off because of an issue of conserving fuel. In the end, he could only
secure fourth place finish while the Briton managed to secure third podium finish.
There have been a lot of speculations that the 2008 world champion is given a preferential treatment over the German driver at the Silver Arrows because he is more talented and has more race victories in his career so far. But, Rosberg has clarified that
no driver is preferred in their team and both of them are treated in the same manner.
“[I'm] very confident that there is no No.1 and No.2,” Rosberg said. “Extremely confident. But you can also answer that question yourself in a few weeks' time or months' time.”
Besides, he expressed that he will always respect the decision of his team regarding their race strategies. He also said that he has no hard feelings about the incident happened in the second round of the season.
“The difficulty was that we hadn't really discussed it beforehand,” he said. “That was the mistake that we did. It's important going forward that everything is discussed and then whichever way it goes, if I'm in front and Lewis is behind or vice-a-versa,
we will respect it.”
“As long as one is prepared for it, it's discussed and it's understood, that's the important thing. That's the main mistake we did as a team,” he added.
In addition, he said that they are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the Chinese GP. It will be important to note that he claimed his maiden race victory in China during the preceding season after securing his first ever pole position. Let’s
see how he performs at the Shanghai International Circuit on April 14.
