Nico Rosberg says will feel pleased if Schumacher continues beyond 2012 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg has expressed that he will be very pleased if Michael Schumacher continues with the team ahead of 2012 after the reports came out about McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton replacing the veteran German driver.
Record championship holder, Schumacher took retirement in 2006 and made his comeback in F1 during 2010. In the year of his return, he was completely outperformed by his teammate Rosberg and struggled throughout the season. Nevertheless, he improved his performance
during the next season.
Schumacher’s contract with Mercedes will end after this year and there have been many speculations regarding his stay or probable replacement with Hamilton.
Rosberg has known Hamilton right from his days in karting. However, he has revealed that he will feel happy if Schumacher keeps carrying on with the team as they both go well together.
“It is quite possible that he will stay, and that would be a good thing,” he told the DPA news agency. “Technically, we complement each other well, which of course for the development of the car is always helpful.”
Moreover, the seven-time world champion has said that there will be tight competition amongst the teams in the forthcoming season and the margin between ‘success and failure’ is narrow.
In addition to that, he said that the victory in the first Grand Prix which is to be held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia is doubtful and he believed that Red Bull Racing will come stronger in the first race. Nonetheless, he said that the season-opener
is crucial as it will provide the information which will be helpful in the evaluation of the enhancements which they have made during the pre-season tests.
“Victory (in Australia) to me is unlikely,” he said on his official website. “I see Red Bull in front. Behind them it will be tight, and you can be either hero or zero very quickly.”
Furthermore, Bernie Ecclestone, F1 chief executive has expressed positive remarks about Rosberg but he is not sure about the legendary Schumacher who has grown a bit older.
“He’s very talented and is capable of winning races. Let’s hope he does this season,” said the Briton.
