Nico Rosberg scores the fastest time at the pre-season test session in Barcelona – Formula 1 news
Team Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg scored the fastest time on Sunday during the 3rd pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona.
The first two days were quite dramatic and the third day was no different either. Nico scored the fastest time of the week in Barcelona and it seems that the German is finally getting a hold of his Mercedes keeping in mind he recently stated that the team
will need to improve its new car and get rid of the reliability issues in order to compete with the top running teams in the upcoming season.
The track was wet during the morning and the 2010 Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel led the timesheets before the lunch break. After the lunch break, Nico outscored Sebastian’s time and disabled the champion from scoring the fastest time of the day for
the third time in a row. Vettel scored the fastest time during the first two days of the 3rd pre-season test session and he was looking pretty good as it seemed that he was pushing his RB7 a lot.
The weather was pretty miserable but this gave the teams an opportunity to test their intermediate tyres and gather a lot of data in order to understand grip level and characteristics of the new compound in a better way. Other than that, the teams want to
get used to the shift from slicks to intermediates and vice versa so this was the perfect opportunity for them to test this change as well.
Mark Webber ran for 139 laps which were the most laps any driver drove for followed by Felipe Massa who ran for 123 laps. However, Massa and team Ferrari was happy with its run of the day and they think that they acquired some vital data which would help
them in the future.
“The Ferrari F150th Italia appears to be very tough and after both incidents, it was able to run again without losing too much time,” according to a report.
McLaren also did 93 laps and it seemed that they improved a lot as well as compared to their performance in the recent couple of test sessions and as a result, Lewis Hamilton scored the third fastest time of the day and he was just 0.690 seconds off Rosberg’s
fastest time.
Other than that, Pastor Maldonado scored a pretty good time as well and finished in 4th place while Lotus’ Jarno Trulli scored the 6th fastest time surprisingly.
The upcoming test session is going to be even more entertaining and it would be interesting to see how the teams perform as they are now trying to push their cars to the limit more than they were at the previous pre-season test sessions.
