Nico Rosberg secures maiden victory at the Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg took his maiden victory at the Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday.
The Chinese Grand Prix was a tricky one as the tyre strategy played a major role in deciding the positions in the race. Rosberg judged his tyre strategy perfectly and finished a deserved winner. It was also Mercedes first Grand Prix win recorded since 1955.
Jenson Button came in a close second but was left feeling disappointed as a pit stop delay left him with a gap that he could not close in on enough to give a still challenge to Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel started his race from 11th place but did well to move past them and was at one stage sitting at the second place. Vettel was on a two pit stop strategy and due to tyre degradation was off the pace in the final stages of the race as Button,
Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton overtook him with ease.
Vettel finished the race at 5th place, another disappointing finish to a so far disappointing season start for the winner of the previous two drivers’ championships.
Lewis Hamilton once more gave a consistent performance by finishing the race placed 3rd. It is another race where Hamilton has finished behind his teammate Button but it has still been a good season for him so far as he has remained in the points.
Lotus camp again disappointed by the results of the race as Kimi Raikkonen finished pointless at 14th while his teammate Romain Grosjean finished 6th. It was a good improvement for young Grosjean but overall the team will not be happy with the results as
they are assumed to have potential for better results.
The Williams performed very well as both their drivers finished in points Bruno Senna finished with a 7th place finish followed by Pastor Maldonado at 8th.
The Sauber’s impressive show at the Malaysian Grand Prix stunned F1 but the team could not take their good performance to China as Sergio Perez finished 11th behind his teammate Kamui Kobayashi. Fernando Alonso winner of the Malaysian Grand Prix finished
at 9th cutting Williams and Sauber drivers. While his teammate Felipe Massa again finished without any points at 13th.
Force India has had a poor season so far and China was no different for their luck as Paul di Resta finished 12th and his team mate Nico Hulkenberg finished 15th leaving the team without any points in the race.
Following Hulkenberg were the two Toro Rosso cars with Jean-Eric Vergne at 16th and Daniel Ricciardo at 17th.
The usual suspects followed the bottom positions with Vitaly Petrov, Timo Glock, Charles Pic, Pedro de la Rosa, Narain Karthikeyan and Heikki Kovalainen filling the final spots.
Michael Schumacher was the only driver retired out of the race.
