Nico Rosberg still happy despite fuel consumption issue in China Grand Prix - Formula 1
Formula 1 Mercedes GP driver, Nico Rosberg, has said that he is still happy with his current progress, even though he ended up burning too much fuel in the Chinese Grand Prix.
He also mentioned that the team was expecting a lot from him in Shanghai and they were looking forward to a podium place. This did not happen because their car consumed too much fuel during the race and both drivers were unable to gather their best run among the top runners of the race.
He added, “The race on Sunday really was one of the most exciting grand prix that I've ever driven. It took some time after the race to let everything sink in because I had high hopes for a good podium result, and I had led for a quarter of the race.”
He went on to say, "However, I can't blame anybody in the team for having been short on fuel, it's a lesson that we learn together. We have to be happy that we made a step forward in China which was achieved by everyone in the team working extremely hard.”
Mercedes GP's pace was much faster than expectations in the China race, as its 25-year-old driver gave a promising performance, finishing fifth for his team.
The German made a very impressive run for the Petronas sponsored team and got ten supportive points at the end of his run. His team-mate, Michael Schumacher, was also busy struggling for his podium position, but was unable to put up a good run because of technical issues with his car during the race.
After the race, Rosberg applauded McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and his performance. Hamilton put his team on the top spot ahead of the previous race winner, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
After his success in China, Rosberg is looking for another victory this season and the whole team is expecting his fastest run in the remaining races of the season.
The team had a disappointing start this season, however their drivers aimed to move forward with stronger strategy. Mercedes team boss believes that the squad has really worked hard and did an excellent job at the Shanghai circuit.
Some sources revealed that Mercedes wants to replicate its winter testing performance in Barcelona on the grid in the next races. The team boss Ross Brawn said, "Now we are seeing the best ways of getting it to work. Nothing dramatic has changed; we just have thought about the set-up and thought about the things we should priorities. And that is what we did in China."
In order to fight for the podium, the team decides to bring some changes in MGP-W02 car in the up-coming race of 2011 season, which will take place on 8 May, in Turkey.
