Nico Rosberg supports Lewis Hamilton’s decision to join Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes has stated that McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton is right to make his decision about joining his team from the next season.
Rosberg said that the McLaren driver has made his decision in light of long-term plans for his career.
“He is thinking about the long-term,” Rosberg said. “This is a strong team that is developing more and more and will certainly succeed eventually. I think he’s leaving space open for something spectacular.”
The F1 community and critics are surprised by this unpredictable decision as Hamilton is joining a team that is not as well performing as the consistent McLaren. Rosberg thinks that his team has the potential to improve. He revealed that the team has increased
the scale of their wind tunnel from fifty to sixty percent.
He said, “It’s a very complicated job but we anticipate to be more competitive in 2013.”
He was asked if he had any concerns or was caught off guard by his team’s decision to replace his retiring teammate Michael Schumacher with Hamilton.
“Not at all. He is one of the best drivers available,” he admitted.
Rosberg has also confessed that he is not worried about the newcomer joining the Mercedes team. He is convinced that if he can perform well enough to be compared to the legendary Michael Schumacher as he has been beating him in championships for the last
three years, then he can also be competitive against Hamilton. He is very pleased about the new addition to the team stating that it will improve more with Hamilton’s potential as he will be bringing in fresh ideas.
On the other hand, McLaren’s team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, had not only stated earlier about Hamilton making a mistake in leaving the team but has recently quoted that the driver might be regretting his decision now.
While Mercedes has failed to score points recently, McLaren have been the victim of reliability issues which has been the cause of Hamilton’s agitation. However, Hamilton says that his relationship with team is good and the team plans to give him warm farewell.
The Brit added that he is looking forward to meeting the standards set by Schumacher.
Let’s see how he fares when he joins the Mercedes works team in 2013.
