Nico Rosberg to drive Juan Manuel Fangio’s Mercedes at Nurburgring – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg is expected to drive Juan Manuel Fangio’s Mercedes W196 at Nurburgring before the German Grand Prix for a demonstration run.
“Coming to the Nürburgring for the German Grand Prix always feels very special to me. There is so much history around this amazing track, especially for Mercedes-Benz with great drivers from the past having had such successful times on the Nürburgring and
the legendary Nordschleife,” said Rosberg.
Rosberg is hoping of pulling this stunt off and it is going to be a very historic moment for the young driver.
“This year, I will have the opportunity to drive Juan Manuel Fangio’s car from 1954 on the amazing old circuit, and that will be very special,” said the German driver.
The W196 helped Fangio secure the victory at the German Grand Prix back in 1954 which took place at Nurburgring after which the legendary driver secured a handful of race wins using the car.
Fangio is a former Formula 1 world champion and is considered as one of the most legendary drivers to step into the Formula 1 world.
Nico is currently going very well in the 2011 Formula 1 season as compared to his teammate, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher.
Mercedes GP have been struggling to perform at their best since it became a part of the sport back in 2010. It seems that their chances of scoring a single podium in 2011 are becoming bleak as the battle between McLaren, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari is getting
more intense with each passing race. They are quite actively improving their respective car’s pace while Mercedes GP are not doing it so actively.
Even though they are not going to be racing for the championship at the German Grand Prix, both of the team’s drivers are German and it is more like a home race for them.
Therefore, the team is going to be hoping for some exceptional results and they will be hoping of entertaining the crowd.
