Nicola Cerfontyne powers her way into Women’s Singles main round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix
England’s Nicola Cerfontyne continues her impressive run as she powered her way into Women’s Singles main round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix. She toppled Germany’s Kim Buss in her last fight in the qualifying round on Tuesday, October 11, in Netherlands.
Cerfontyne, who was third seed in the qualifying round, displayed her elite skills and thrashed her opponent in straight games by consuming just 26 minutes in the court. Buss was helpless against the power-play of her higher ranked opponent and bowed down
without putting up strong fight.
In both games of the match, Cerfontyne remained in complete control as she played planned badminton without taking any pressure. Her composed and positive play earned her wonderful advantage over her rival. The German tried to play competitive game in the
starting points but her opponent was playing on a higher level.
Cerfontyne opened her campaign against the German in a relaxed but quick way. Her hand-eye coordination was incredible as she perfectly timed her strokes in all areas of the court. The English shuttler managed to reach at 11-6 at the end of the first half
of the opening set.
The German played a few wonderful strokes after the break and drew near to her in-form challenger. However, Cerfontyne accelerated her speed and injected more power in her strokes to stretch her lead. The attacking and positive game of Cerfontyne helped
her to take the first set in just 14 minutes by a 21-12 score.
In the following set, Cerfontyne took an early lead by playing with precision. Her finishing touch was impressive as she missed no chance to win points throughout the game. Buss found herself helpless against the positive and perfect play of her opponent.
Cerfontyne established a good lead in the opening half and maintained it in the whole set. She ended the second set in a remarkable fashion with a 21-12 score in just 12 minutes.
The English shuttler won the battle in 26 minutes by a one-sided score of 21-12 and 21-12.
