Nicolas Almagro dismisses Guillermo Olaso to move into the quarterfinals – SkiStar Swedish Open 2011
Fourth seed Nicolas Almagro played his opening match in this year’s edition of the Swedish Open on Friday at Court 1. He had earlier received a bye to the next round. Almagro easily overpowered his compatriot Guillermo Olaso to
win the match 6-2, 6-3 and is all set on the path to reclaim his title.
Almagro, currently ranked at No. 14, has had a successful year so far. He’s been raking in points by performing exceptionally well in all the major ATP events. Almagro won the title at Nice, France and reached the semi finals at
Barcelona only to bow out to second seed David Ferrer. His fiercest competitions in the tournament are top seed Robin Soderling and Ferrer, both of them possible and likely contenders in the coming matches.
Qualifier Olaso is ranked at 182 and has performed extremely well in this tournament. He has been performing actively on the ITF circuit and has even grabbed a title in Spain at ITF Futures this May.
Olaso opened the first set and the game quickly progressed to a 2-2 tie. Almagro showing extreme poise registered two serve breaks and to take the lead. He bagged 14 of his 15 serve points and these coupled with Olaso’s four double
points stacked the odd heavily against the struggling Olaso’s favor. Olaso could only save one of his three breakpoints and the set ended 6-2 in Almagro’s favor.
Olaso served the opener for the second set but Almagro registered a perfectly converted breakpoint in the first game of the set and started with a lead. Almagro’s three aces and 11 points off the 15 serves proved to be the final
blow. Olaso who had managed to 3-4 failed to score any more games. Almagro sealed the match effortlessly at 6-3 and won the match with an effective two set victory.
Almagro will now face wild card Michael Ryderstedt in his next match scheduled for later today. Ryderstedt had earlier today won 6-4, 6-2 against Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo.
