Nicolas Almagro ousts Tobias Kamke to reach third round – Bet at home Open 2013
Former Top 10, Nicolas Almagro, eased past the German challenger, Tobias Kamke, in straight sets at the Bet at home Open 2013 on Tuesday. He penned down a 6-3, 6-3 victory against the German to progress into the pre-quarters at
this ATP World Tour 500 series event taking place in Hamburg, Germany.
Seeded third in this event, Almagro showed his class after entering this outdoor clay court event. Both challengers previously met each other at the Mutua Madrid Open few months ago and after securing this victory, Almagro extended
his lead in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series by 3-0 against the German.
Almagro made convincing start in this match. He drew the first blood in the fourth game and jumped to a 4-1 lead. The Spaniard then held his remaining serves with poise and clicked the opener with a 6-3 win.
Currently ranked 15th in the Emirates Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Almagro kept momentum rolling in the following set. He got the coveted break in the opening game and took the initial lead. Regardless of squandering
his edge in the sixth game, the Spaniard stayed focused and stroke out the last three games. As a result, he sealed the deal by winning six games to three.
Summing up the Spaniard’s performance, Almagro manifested an equal first serve share of 57 per cent in comparison with Kamke but spectacularly marked 22 out of 24 points on it. He also fired an amazing six aces and committed fewer
unforced errors.
With this triumph, the 27-year-old recorded his 21st victory in 31 clay court matches. He is eyeing to grab his 13th clay court title at this event. This season the Spaniard secured final berths in Houston
and Barcelona.
Next in queue for Almagro is the conqueror of match between 13th seeded Mikhail Youzhny and Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the round of 16.
Earlier that day, the ninth seed Benoit Paire stole the show and progressed at this event. He crushed Spain’s Albert Montanes wit a breadstick to advance.
The Frenchman will next take on his compatriot Gael Monfils or the defending champion Juan Monaco.
