Nicolas Anelka wants to end career at Chelsea
Chelsea's striker, Nicolas Anelka has expressed the desire to end his career with his current employers and would want nothing more than to play the remaining of his career with the blues.
It was the Frenchman’s 50th career goal at Chelsea, when he managed a calm finish against Spartak Moscow in the UEFA Champions league this week and is in the form of his life this season. Despite being a 31 year old, Anelka has scored 8 times
in 11 appearances so far this season and is one of the most experienced strikers in the premier league. Anelka is therefore content with his current club and would love nothing more but to extend his stay there by the end of the current season.
Anelka is currently on a 14 match ban from the French International side owing to a row with the manager at this summer’s World Cup, which has practically ended his career with the Les Blues. The only career remaining for the 31 year old is Chelsea and he
has expressed his desire to sign a new contract with them.
"It is the first time I have scored that many for any club but it is the first time I have spent more than two-and-a-half years at a club as well. It shows how happy I am at Chelsea. When I first signed here, I knew had arrived at a big club and I wanted
to stay as long as possible”, said the player. He is delighted to be part of a side who won a domestic doubles last season and was happy to contribute his services to the London based club.
"I don't know what will happen in the future. After this season, I have one more year on my current deal and I will see what will happen because you never know. But I am very happy here and I would be glad to sign for more years”, added the former Bolton
man.
Anelka was the winner of Premier League Golden Boot two seasons ago and was also included in the premier league team of the season twice in his career. For the international outfit, Anelka has scored 14 times in 63 appearances. His single goal against Ukraine
earned France the chance to play in the Euro 2008 qualifiers and he was also an integral for the side’s World Cup final run in 2006.
"I am just very satisfied to achieve two landmarks with Chelsea in goals scored and how long I have spent here, it has just been special to score goals for Chelsea", maintained the French star.
Anelka has been an all round performer for Chelsea, having scored 10 times in 30 appearances in the Champions league. However, he still regrets the day when he saw his penalty effort being stopped by United goal keeper, Edwin Van Der Sar in the 2008 UEFA
Champions league final, which was the winning moment for the Red Devils. Chelsea, to this day, remain desperate on getting their hands on the rather elusive Champions league trophy and owner Roman Abramovich has been quite vocal about this ordeal.
Chelsea are currently top of the table in the premier league with 19 points from 8 fixtures and have lost just one match so far in the season. They hold a two point lead over 2nd place Manchester City and 5 point lead over United, Arsenal and
Tottenham Hotspurs. With Anelka, Drogba and Malouda forming the attacking line-up for the defending champions, Chelsea have thrashed opponents almost at will and remain the most threatening side in the premier league.
