Nicolas Anelka would be glad to stay at Chelsea
French striker Nicolas Anelka has said he is happy to be settled at Chelsea, adding that he would be open to signing a contract extension with the Londoners.
Since leaving Paris Saint Germain in 1997, Anelka has played for eight European clubs, rendering him one of the most mobile players on the continent.
Anelka, who has never spent three seasons at any of his previous clubs, will have been at Chelsea for three years come January 2011 and has scored 33 goals in 91 appearances. The striker, who has 69 international caps to his name, said he is happy to have
found continuity with Carlo Ancelotti's team.
"It is the first time I have scored that many for any club but it is the first time I have spent more than two-and-a-half years at a club as well," said Anelka, who joined Chelsea in January 2008. "It shows how happy I am at Chelsea. When I first signed
here I knew had arrived at a big club and I wanted to stay as long as possible."
(In fact, Anelka scored more goals during his two-and-a-half years at Manchester City – 37 in 89 appearances.)
Controversial striker a success at Chelsea
The Frenchman, who has fallen out with several managers during his career, among them Vicente del Bosque and Luis Fernandez, has formed an integral part of Chelsea's attack alongside Didier Drogba and compatriot Florent Malouda in recent seasons.
This season, Anelka has scored eight goals in 11 appearances for the club — four of which have come in the Champions League — and the 31-year-old said he would be happy to extend his current contract with the club.
"After this season I have one more year on my current deal and I will see what will happen because you never know. But I am very happy here and I would be glad to sign for more years. I am just very satisfied to achieve two landmarks with Chelsea in goals
scored and how long I have spent here, it has just been special to score goals for Chelsea."
Chelsea host Wolverhampton in the Premier League on Saturday, 23 October, where a win would keep the team at the top of the table.
