Nicolas Burdisso: AS Roma can still qualify for UEFA Champions League
AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 defender Nicolas Burdisso insists his club can still qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the next season.
He said that they still have nine matches to play in the Serie A and they stand a good chance of finishing in the top four to qualify for the Europe’s premier competition for the 2011-12 season.
AS Roma defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 2-0 in the Derby della Capitale in the Italian Serie A on Sunday and are now four points behind Udinese, who occupy the final UEFA Champions League qualification spot. Francesco Totti’s brace ensured three points for the Giallorossi
over the city rivals as Lazio lost the fourth place to Udinese over the weekend.
Burdisso believes that Roma are a confident side now after some good recent results in the League and said that the club was overjoyed to win the crucial derby against Lazio. The Argentinean said that it was a great feeling to win the last five Capital derbies
and winning it at a crucial time of the season provided more satisfaction.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan defender added that Roma have shown that they are a quality side and will not give up on the Champions League spot for the next season. He insisted that the players are determined to get good results from the remaining games after
the club’s poor showing in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
“It was a great satisfaction to win this derby, and even more beautiful to have won five in a row. Roma have given an important message to the league and it's a demonstration that we are always there to do better, to fight. We won't give up,” the defender
was quoted as saying.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 international said that Roma will play to win against Fiorentina in their next Serie A game in Florence. He described it as a difficult clash and said that Roma will definitely go out to win and put pressure on Lazio and Udinese for the fourth
place.
“It will be a difficult game against Fiorentina and we'll go to Florence to win,” concluded the Roma defender.
AS Roma have had a torrid season and are currently in sixth place with 49 points. The Giallorossi have seen a revival under Vincenzo Montella, who recently replaced Claudio Ranieri as the caretaker manager until the end of the season. Montella is unbeaten
in the Serie A since then and has won some crucial battles in the League. With the wins, he has put the club in contention for a place in Europe next season.
The club faces stiff competition from the likes of Lazio and Udinese but considering Roma’s fixture list, it looks unlikely that they will finish in the top four as they still have to play Juventus, AC Milan and Udinese in the Serie A.
