Nicolas Colsaerts closer to earning a full PGA Tour card
The Belgian, Nicolas Colsaerts will be the ninth European Ryder Cup team player to earn a PGA Tour card. Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood are already playing on the PGA Tour.
Luke Donald even made history when he topped the money earned list on the PGA and the European Tour. World number one, Rory McIlroy is close to achieving this feat.
The Belgian bomber has presently taken a special temporary membership for the PGA Tour, which allows him to play the rest of the season.
Colsaerts has planned to play at next week’s Frys.com Open at CordeValle.
Nicolas has so far earned a hefty amount of $494,386 but he is still quite far behind the 125th player on the money earned list. That is what the tour thought.
They, however, failed to take into account the prize money that he earned in World Golf Championship.
According to that, he has earned $652,886 and is currently 119th in the money earned list. If he has a good outing at Frys.com, then is most certainly assured of his PGA Tour Card for the next season.
Another European player, Peter Hanson, has also taken up temporary membership. Hanson, however, is already assured of his tour card, as he has earned a sufficient amount.
Peter has so far earned $835,211, which assures him to make the cut in the list.
PGA Tour is much more competitive and lucrative than the European Tour. That is why most of the players prefer to play in America. Since the game has globalised, many have turned their eye towards the States.
Luke Donald, however, had one suggestion for the European Tour – that it should include the participation of the Ryder Cup in the regular tour schedule.
A player must compete in at least 15 tournaments to be eligible for the next season. Donald has to play three more.
"It's one of the busiest weeks we play all year, hence we'd like to get the European Tour to count it as a counting event," Donald said. "We actually do quite a lot of work that week".
Rory McIlroy has also come out and supported the former world number one, Donald, over his idea.
