Nicolas Colsaerts finally makes it to the European Ryder Cup team
Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts has been added to the European Ryder Cup team after the captain, Jose Maria Olazabal, named him as one of his two captain’s picks for this year biennial event.
After getting a spot in one of the most followed events on the golfing scene, Colsaerts will become the only Belgian to be a part of the European team in the history of the tournament.
In 2008, he was ranked outside the top-1000 players in the world rankings, and did not have any chance to be selected for the team then. This year, he was among the favourites to be selected by Olazabal.
According to him, he wanted to be a part of the European team since he was a kid. He stated that if someone wants something in his life, they must achieve it through their passion and consistent hard work.
"I'm living proof that if you want something badly it's only a matter of time if you put the work in and have the passion. It's a bit of a fairy story," Colsaerts said. "This has been something I've wanted since I was a little kid”.
The Brussels resident won the Volvo China Open as his first European Tour title last year. This year, he bagged another title when he won the Volvo World Match Play Championship by defeating Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell 1-Up.
In addition to that, he also recorded eight top-10 finishes in the 20 European Tour events that he has played so far in the 2012 golf season. Therefore, Olazabal’s choice of selecting him has been praised by many.
He also told that he never stopped dreaming about his goal, even after dropping to the 1305th position in the world rankings.
"I never lost faith. I had the passion and self-belief that one day it was going to turn around," he said.
"It's been a long summer. Every time I was in a position to seal the deal it was at the back of my mind. I've gone through the nerves of trying to make the team to now getting there but it's a good problem to have".
