Nicolas Colsaerts has a big chance to earn the PGA Tour membership, where as Rory McIlroy stacks up more awards
About a year and a half ago, Nicolas Colsaerts would never have thought that he would be moving around in so many places to play golf. His ranking was way below, at 179 in the world, and he had never won a tournament on a competitive tour.
However, fortunes turned brightly for him and now he is not only a regular member of the European Tour, but he is very close to earning a full time Tour card for the 2013 PGA Tour.
The next couple of weeks are very crucial for Colsaerts, as he bids to earn the Tour membership card.
The big bomber from Belgium got a sponsor’s exemption for the upcoming Frys.com Open and this could be his last chance to earn the tour card.
So far, the Belgian has earned $652,886 and needs to earn at least this much more to get inside the top 125 money tour list.
Three events are left for the players to earn some money and Colsaerts needs to come up with three strong performances.
“When you get a chance to play this tour with all these players, the course you play on such a big stage, it would be stupid not to consider it,” Colsaerts said.
The big bomber is really a big fan of the PGA Tour and he is striving hard to get the tour card for the next season.
“I’ve been to the U.S. quite a lot,” he said. “But when you realize how many unbelievable golf courses you have around the country, it’s quite unbelievable for somebody like me coming from such a small country to have a chance to play golf around an unbelievable
country like and you have play these fantastic courses”.
The Belgium born golfer is not only a US golf fan but he loves the burgers and other foods that are available in the country.
“I have to say, I have a little thing for Five Guys burgers,” Colsaerts said.
On the other hand, his European counterpart, Rory McIlroy is busy stacking up awards. The world number one has officially secured the Arnold Palmer Award now, for leading the PGA Tour money list at $8,047,952.
The Northern Irishman has also been nominated for Vardon Trophy and Jack Nicklaus Award for PGA Tour of the Year.
Rory McIlroy also clinched the PGA of America’s player of the year award.
