Nicolas Colsaerts in contention at CordeValle
The Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts has done himself a huge favour at Frys.com Open. Nicolas carded a bogey free round of six under, 65. Nick O’Hern might have equalled the course record but the Belgian bomber is on his way to earning a full time PGA Tour card
for the next season.
Nicolas is currently tied for the second position at Frys.com Open, along with Jhonattan Vegas and Derek Ernst.
Currently, the European Ryder Cupper is playing as a special temporary member but to earn his full time PGA Tour card for the next season, he must finish at least at the 125th rank on the money tour list.
At the moment, the Belgian is at the 120th spot, with total earnings of $652,886. If he earns this much more, then he is almost certainly guaranteed the tour card for the next season.
"I played pretty good," Colsaerts said. "I had a lot of very good shots early out. I got quickly under par. I was a little bit sloppy in the middle, but I just made sure I did my pars. I had a couple good up and downs and a couple good birdies to finish
with".
Nicolas must not become complacent. A few more rounds like these and you never know, the Belgian might be holding his first trophy on the US soil.
It has been a remarkable turnaround for Nicolas. Just 18 months ago, he was struggling with his game. His ranking had gone way below to 179th.
Now, not only is he a regular member of the European Tour, but he is also part of the European Ryder cup team. In fact, he was very instrumental in the Europeans’ success at Medinah.
"When you look back and you see where I was, I'm just the perfect example that if you want something really bad and you put your work into it, if you've got the heart and the passion, anything is achievable," Colsaerts said.
"It's almost like I feel like I've come back from the dead”.
The Belgian likes to travel around the globe. He has already travelled much of the world and now he wants to explore the land of USA.
Nicolas is also a big fan of US golf and if he wins here at the Frys.com Open, then it is certain that American fans will get to see more of him next year.
