Nicolas Colsaerts in control at Frys.com Open
Nicolas Colsaerts may not be shooting low scores as Nick O’Hern and John Mallinger have been shooting for last two rounds, but the Belgian is firmly in control of the situation at CordeValle.
Colsaerts shot an average round of 3-under 68. However, he sits comfortably at 9-under with just two rounds remaining.
The Belgian bomber is currently playing on a special temporary membership. He is eyeing a permanent tour card for the next season.
Currently, Nicolas is 120th in the money tour list but he needs to finish at least equivalent of 125th. A victory or a top three finish would certainly guarantee the tour card for the next season.
The European Ryder Cupper shot five birdies and two bogeys in his round of 68.
Colsaerts is just five shots adrift of the leader, John Mallinger but there are still two rounds to go. If the European can play the way he has played in Ryder Cup, then there is a big possibility of a victory for Nicolas.
The world number 35 is in love with American golf and he is trying his best to ply his trade in USA.
"This is all new for me, but every bit of taste that I get when I come over here and play is wonderful," Colsaerts said. "It would be stupid to think that I wouldn't like to play over here".
It was a decent round by Nicolas. The important thing is that he must not fall far behind, as the victory does not mean much to him.
It is the money that he earns which is more important. So he must eye for a top-three finish, instead of going for the kill and falling somewhere in between.
"I played pretty good," Colsaerts said. "I had a lot of very good shots early out. I got quickly under par. I was a little bit sloppy in the middle, but I just made sure I did my pars. I had a couple good up and downs and a couple good birdies to finish
with".
Whereas, on the other hand, Ernie Els improved from his first round’s performance, as he too shot 3-under 68.
